Shopping is generally a chore, but there is a small grace. The Eco Shop helps to buck this trend. Dreamed up by Jane this beautiful venture is just over a year old.

How did it start? Jane was frustrated with the difficulties of finding fair-traded and organic produce. Often you had to try a few shops and accept a limited range. So was born the idea of a one stop shop with the marvellous logo,
Think Globally,
Act Locally,
Buy Ecoshop!

When you enter The Eco Shop you are greeted by a wonderful smell. It’s a bit lemony, a bit spicy, clean, enticing and mmm! What you also notice is how natural the smell is with no nasty plastic odour.

The shop is open plan, uncluttered but packed with beautiful and useful items that all have top pedigrees of origin, production and labour. Here you find local jams and fruits sharing succulent space with delicious fair-trade chocolate.

Yes some of the produce travels to get here, but Jane does her best to minimise its subsequent journeys and packaging. Often you call in your order for organic lamb as it’s happily munching away on the near by hillsides. That’s fresh!

Truly this is a one-stop shop where you can find something for everyone.

Take the mobile phone charger for use on bicycles (€29.95) How’s that for a hint to the business bods in your life?

There are organic cotton T-shirts. Anyone who bought one raves about their great shape and how well they wear and wash. (Starts from €12.50, in 3 sizes) Or check out the trendy embroidered bags for the fashionable in your life.

If you know someone with a new arrival get a special baby hamper made up and posted to their door. The products are organic and proven to be kind, gentle and effective. The calendula nappy rash cream works a treat and smells divine.

To add a bit of good clean heat to your relationship never mind the tantric, get a wood pellet-burning stove. These stoves of the future are fantastic modern heating machines. Now all you need is a good sheepskin rug and somewhere to leave the family!

Lastly for something beautiful look at their gift-wrapping paper. At €1 a sheet it’s a steal. It’s handmade in Nepal but is too lovely to think of using for wrapping presents. Besides it would raise expectations too much. If the wrapping is that good…

The Eco shop is for life, not just for Christmas. You really can do nearly all of your shopping there. Take a look, but you will be back! This is a model in shopping convenience and quality. You can pre-order and collect or have things posted.
