The work of a practising craftsperson can have a beneficial effect on the local environment

It is tempting to look back to a time, perhaps a century ago, as the golden age of handcrafts. It is definitely true that there were far more people working as skilled craftspeople then than now and that most homes contained a good selection of hand made objects but there were difficulties then, as now, in making a living from craftwork.
